Today in Year 6 we have been doing poetry. We learnt how to do a quick poem using our name I used the name SAMUEL. In my name is a slivering snake, In my name is a king’s crown, In my name is a bed, In my name is a hill hiding the valley, In my name is a chair, In my name is a snow coated mountain. The End So that is my poem with pictures as letters. Well today it is our last day of primary school and the class is going to their high school. Here are some high schools they are going to: St Peter’s, the new East Manchester Academy and Wright Robinson. This year has gone so fast! Can you believe it! This the last blog post from the old year 6. We’ll miss you St James’! On Friday 14Th May the year 6′s of St James C.E Primary school Gorton went on a trip to the Town hall. They went to the Lord Mayor’s tea party and met lots of other people. While they were there, they played the African drums. The songs they played were called morabasa and pan logo. They weren’t there just to play the drums they were there to have a good time. They listened to lots of different types of music including singing, guitar playing and steel pans.

Year 6′s Phenomenal Town Hall Concert!Posted by year6 in Uncategorized, tags: Bayley, Town hallOur amazing teacher, Mrs Mahapatra took us to the town hall in Gorton to play the drums in front of the Lord Mayor, because there’s going to be a new mayor. Playing in the building was an amazing experience for all the Y6 pupils in St. James’ Primary School! Would you like to know what happened? If so, read on! On this trip we got to play the african drums in front of loads of people! Most of us got a cupcake and a drink some had to share a cake together, including me. There was loads of other entertainment there too, like the steel pans and a band. It was a really fun party and I would definately like to go again. I will never forget this party EVER! On Friday 14th May, Year 6 of St James’ Primary School went to give a drumming performance at the Town Hall for the Lord Mayor. First we had a little practice then we sat down at our tables and had a drink. Finally, we went on stage. On Friday 14th May year 6 went to the town hall to perform. They were choosen especially to go to the town hall by their drumming teacher Liz Powers. They went to perform by playing the drums, dun duns, dancing, playing the bell and the axatse. At 12:15 they set off on the coach to arrive at the Town Hall in time to practise one more time before the real thing. When they got into the Great Hall they set up all their instuments in preparation to play their piece. After they set up, the Mayor of Manchester said a few words and wished us good look, then she handed over to Morris Walsh. When it finally came to their turn, they set up in their positions and concerntrated hard. Before they set off on the coach, Liz said “do your best and concerntrate hard on me, so you don’t go out of time.” So they did and they sailed through the performance! When they were watching the other schools perform they had a bottle of pure orange juice each and half a cupcake each. Then they sang with Morris Walsh one more time. Finally they packed up and set off back to school in time for the end of the day. By Amy On Monday 17th May 2010 year 6 went to the Gorton Monastery and learnt some fantastic facts about the church, like the word “angel” means messenger in Greek. We also learnt about making bricks out of clay and buying bricks for 1d (1p). Another thing that we learnt about was when they built the church it took them 10 years, 29 months and 8 days. When people started to re-build it, it took them the same time as the old time. My favourite meal is a plate of mouthwatering chips with scrumptious, shiny red ketchup and crispy fish. If you love chips, you will love this meal. The chips crunch in your mouth like biscuits and the lovely, crispy and delicious fish is like a drug - if you started eating, you would never stop. Year 6 are designing and making models of vehicles of the future in preparation for our Wheels Morning next Friday. Here are some pictures of what we have been up to. Don’t worry – we will keep adding them as we go on!
